At HoliZyme we have a proprietary process to reach new cosmetic alcohols. This process, composed of two enzymatic reactions, has the advantage to use natural feedstock and biobased & biodegradable catalysts providing the unique aspect of natural product syntheses.

Cosmetic alcohols (which are long-chain alcohols) are nowadays used for their texturing agent property. Our process – which is more selective – provides new product family, for the ones we aim at extending their chemical property to additional active properties such as humectant, antiwrinkle, anti-microbial, anti-oxidant for example. Recently, a preliminary study showed interesting antimicrobial activity.

Looking at the variety of the oxidative enzymes (for the hydroxide moiety insertion) as well as the broad range of natural fatty acids present in the vegetable oils, this process has a high application potential.
